Catalyst NZ is excited to announce the release of Mahara 18.04, the latest version of the ePortfolio platform. This version comes packed with new features around personal privacy, using cloud storage, and making regular tasks in Mahara easier.
Keep personal data safe
Mahara 18.04 will help organisations comply with the European Union's new privacy regulation, the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation), that comes into effect in the EU on 25 May 2018. The GDPR requires organisations to be stricter with personal user data stored on websites. Some of the new Mahara privacy features are:
- Require consent to be given to terms and conditions and the privacy statement;
- Keep track of consent given;
- Send a notification for further steps automatically if a user revokes consent;
- Remove all personal data during account deletion;
- Implement a password policy that requires more secure passwords.
Catalyst EU led the development of many of the new GDPR features.
Store media files for less in the cloud
Organisations using ePortfolios can easily store lots of multimedia learning evidence. Using traditional storage, this can lead to substantial monthly costs. To reduce storage costs for files, the Catalyst AU team created functionality in Mahara 18.04 that allows a Mahara site to be connected to AWS S3 or Microsoft Azure Blob Storage.
New features every six months
Catalyst maintains the Mahara software and is the primary contributor to it. Along with clients and community contributors, Catalyst makes new functionality available to the Mahara community every six months. We would like to thank everyone for their continued support and contributions to this open source project.
