Library management - Koha

By being flexible, scalable and open, Koha Library Management Software is a long-term solution for libraries of all types and sizes. Public, special, school and academic libraries can choose Koha with a vision for a system to meet their needs long into the future.

Catalyst's specialist Koha team work with libraries to provide ongoing system hosting and support services, with development and integration of new and existing library services. Our shared goal will be to provide the best possible experience to your library customers.

In 2013 South Taranaki began hosting Stratford District Council’s library on the Koha server. Both organisations contribute to the running costs and set aside a percentage for future developments. The merger, performed by Catalyst, was seamless for both Districts. The ability to easily change processes and adapt to new technology gives us the ability to face the future with confidence.

About Koha

Koha was first developed in New Zealand, and is now used in 5000+ libraries around the world. By supporting open interoperability with other systems, Koha becomes both the discovery layer and the platform.

Koha is a purpose-built, web-based library management system. A web browser is all that is required for members to access and staff to administer Koha. Through six-monthly feature releases and monthly maintenance releases, libraries can contribute to Koha and benefit from the contributions made by others around the world.

Libraries can use the content management facility within Koha, or integrate with their full website, document repository, or any other online services the library may wish to bring together. Integrated search results are delivered within the Koha interface.

The public interfaces of Koha offer a responsive “mobile friendly” design. All interfaces are easy to customise to each library's requirements.

Being open source, there are no “per-seat” licensing fees with Koha. Koha libraries only spend their budgets on system support and future service improvements. Koha libraries can collaborate with each other, formally or informally, on our infrastructure or their own. Ideas from the community of Koha users steer the work of the Koha developer community.
