Senior Java Developer - New Zealand - Wellington

Catalyst IT is part of a global team of skilled open source technologists. We specialise in developing, designing and supporting enterprise grade systems using open source technologies.

We are looking for an experienced Java developer to join our team in our Wellington office. We’re looking for someone with a passion for open source, who can think innovatively and creatively and likes to sink their teeth into challenging client work. You’ll need to be comfortable being client facing and assisting with technical responses in meetings; so top notch communication skills are key. This includes being on-site with our client at times, and it is a requirement of this client that you will be able to get security clearance.

For this role you will need to have had several years of industry experience, with most of those being in Java web development. We’re particularly looking for experience with databases, APIs and transactions. You should have full webstack understanding, from browser to database. You’ll also need to be familiar with SQL and Spring and have experience following code review practises.

You will have experience with Linux/Unix command line, with IDE as your second mindset. You will be working on an existing long lived codebase, and also be very comfortable with the high level design of new components. You should also be familiar with Agile practices and have experience with CI/CD.

Previous experience with other open source solutions and applications will be a definite advantage as well so please be sure to note these, or any open source contributions you’ve made.
