Python Developer - New Zealand - Wellington

Catalyst Cloud are providing the cloud for Aotearoa. Our mission is to enable the growth of New Zealand's digital economy with state of the art cloud services delivered onshore.

We are looking for a python developer to join our team in our Wellington office to help us maintain and run New Zealand’s first public cloud. We’re ideally looking for someone with around 2-4 years of experience, but will consider interested candidates outside of that range. We need someone with a passion for open source, who can think innovatively and creatively, and is ready to take on further training and knowledge to grow into a great senior developer.

A lot of our work is upstream development on OpenStack, and involves working with a diverse community of developers all around the world. You will be helping us make OpenStack better, and expanding the tools and services for our own internal systems.

In this role you will be working primarily with Python, so you should be both completely comfortable and really enjoy working with Python. If you have some front end experience and like to dabble in that occasionally this will be really helpful – particularly if this includes an interest in React or Vue.

While this role is mostly development focused, an interest in DevOps & containerisation will greatly compliment the role, and will open future opportunities for you. Good generalist knowledge over a range of skills will be more helpful for this role than deep experience with a smaller set of skills. You’ll also be working with Linux all day every day so proficiency with the Linux command line and operating systems will be very useful.

Good interpersonal and communication skills are essential as you’ll be working with a range of both clients and colleagues in order to successfully manage existing systems and new ones.

Previous experience with any other open source solutions and applications will be a definite advantage as well so please be sure to note these, or any open source contributions you’ve made.

Being a good employer is really important to us. We make sure our staff have all of the support they need to grow their skills. We get together every Friday afternoon to relax, share company news from around the world and celebrate the achievements of our staff.

We also offer health insurance, flexible working hours, plenty of training opportunities, and a great central location.
